Dan received his BA in physics from Berkeley in 1992. He performed doctoral studies of gaseous Bose-Einstein condensates at MIT as a National Science Foundation and JSEP Graduate Fellow. He completed his Ph.D. in 2000, and was awarded the APS Division of Atomic, Optical and Molecular Physics Outstanding Thesis award. Before joining the Berkeley faculty, he was a Robert A. Millikan Postdoctoral Fellow at the California Institute of Technology. Alfred P. Sloan Fellow (2001 - 2003). Awarded the Hellman Family Faculty Fund Award in 2002. Packard Fellow (2002 - 2007).
