Abstract
For a long time optical scattering has been considered detrimental
to lasing action. Surprisingly, in a highly-disordered dielectric medium, strong light
scattering facilities lasing by introducing feedback and forming cavities.
Such kind of laser is called random laser or mirrorless laser. I will review recent
developments of coherent random laser and micro random laser. The realization of
random laser opens a new path for the fundamental study of Anderson localization.
The potential applications of random laser will be discussed.
