"Defects In Diamond: Exploring Atomic Physics in the Solid State"
The nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond has attracted considerable attention for applications in quantum information science and magnetometry, and many of its desirable characteristics arise from its resemblance to an atom or ion embeeded in a crystal. This talk will present techniques to control the hyperfine states of the NV center from the perspective of atomic physics, and discuss observations of strong-field phenomena enabled by working with a solid state system.
