"Redefining Accuracy: How Laser Frequency Combs Have Changed Spectroscopy"
Abstract:
The development of laser frequency combs based on femtosecond mode-locked lasers has revolutionized the field of precision spectroscopy. Stabilized frequency combs provide a coherent optical ruler that can serve as an optical-to-microwave or optical-to-optical sythesizer. I will discuss recent experiments that I worked on at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and some current experiments I am performing at Oberlin College that utilize frequency combs to perform spectroscopy at extraordinary levels.
