"Prospects for measuring the EDM of the proton in a storage ring"
Abstract :
A permanent electric dipole moment (EDM) of a fundamental particle would
violate parity and time-reversal symmetries. Non-zero EDMs are
predicted in the standard model (SM), but are unobservably small. Many models of
physics beyond the SM predict dramatically enhanced EDMs, and evidence of this new
physics is possibly within reach of the next generation of EDM searches. An
experiment to reduce the limits on the EDM of the proton by more than 3 orders of
magnitude to 10^{-29} e-cm in a storage ring is described.
