Abstract
In this talk the effects related to a low frequency (hertzinan) coherences
crated by a laser radiation in an ensemble of atoms or molecules and atomic state
mixing in atoms placed in an external field will be discussed. Four recent experimental
studies will be briefly overviewed. Namely:
1. Alignment to orientation coversion for atoms with hyperfine structure placed in
a magnetic field of intermediate strength (Pashen - Back effect) will be described.
2. Creation and destruction by an external magnetic field of dark (decreased light
absorption) and bright (increased light absorption) resonances in rubidium and cesium
atoms will be analyzed.
3. Fluorescence spectra registration from extremely thin optical cells
(thickness ~ 100 nm) filled with cesium or rubidium atoms will be described and influence of an
external magnetic field on these spectra will be studied;
A possibility of fast electric field mapping by means of laser coherent excitation of diatomic molecules in an electric field will be demonstrated.
