Abstract
In recent months our group has undertaken a number of novel experiments
with Bose-Einstein condensates of rubidium atoms. I will discuss the nature of the paces
we put our atoms through, including our remarkably efficient evaporation to BEC, our
newly discovered "ultracold cyclotron" which allows our quantum degenerate atoms
to explore a multiply-connected toroidal geometry, and the unique magnetic trapping
technology that made these developments possible. Prospects for future work marrying
cavity QED with magnetically-trapped ultracold atoms will be discussed,
as well as the latest happenings in the Birge basement
